Engaged 36-year-old Air Force vet dies after getting stuck in mail handling machine

An engaged Air Force veteran died after getting stuck in a mail handling machine at a United States Postal Service facility in Michigan, officials said.Nicholas Acker, 36, was believed to have been dead for six to eight hours when a maintenance worker found him in the machine Saturday morning at the USPS Detroit Network Distribution Center in Allen Park, ClickOnDetroit reported.Acker had spent nine years in the US Air Force and had been working at the Allen Park facility for about a year as a mechanic, according to his heartbroken fiancé, Stephanie Jaszcz.“He was just one of those people whose sweetness and thoughtfulness weren’t just traits, they were just his way of life,” she told the outlet.“He was very generous.It wasn’t always just gifts and gestures.
It was always his time and his heart.He made everyone feel valid and seen.”Firefighters initially said they responded to the facility after Jaszcz called authorities to report that he hadn’t returned home after his shift.Jaszcz, however, said she didn’t call.
Instead, she waited outside the facility for hours before she got any help.Police have ruled Acker’s death “accidental” and are investigating how he got stuck in the mail handling machine.“The United States Postal Service is deeply saddened by the loss of our employee at the Detroit Network Distribution Center (NDC) in Allen Park, MI,” USPS said in a statement.“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”...
