Legendary portrait photographer Annie Leibovitz’s sprawling California farm is looking for a buyer to the tune of $8.99 million, the Wall Street Journal first reported. Leibovitz, 74 — who is best known for her magazine portraits of celebrities including John Lennon, Yoko Ono and Bob Dylan, among others — purchased the 65-acre property in the coastal Bay Area town of Bolinas in 2019, when she anticipated spending far more time on the West Coast than fate would ultimately have.“I had always thought of myself as a California person,” she told The Post in a statement.“I went to school there, at the San Francisco Art Institute.

I learned to be a photographer there.When Rolling Stone moved to New York in 1977, I didn’t think that I was moving too.

I didn’t believe that I went to New York to stay.I thought I lived in California.

After all those years living and working in New York and raising my children, I dreamed about returning to California.”Eager to move back to California, and believing her eldest daughter was going to college in the Bay Area, Leibovitz bought the estate, which is known as the Hideaway, for $7.5 million just before the start of the coronavirus pandemic.She then sunk some $2 million into upgrading the infrastructure during her five years of ownership, the Journal reported. “We planned to partner with a legendary farmer over the hill to bring the place back to its former self as a working and teaching farm,” said Leibovitz, but “things don’t always go as planned.” Her daughter decided to go to college in the Northeast, and she rarely found herself at her new compound — so now 605 Horseshoe Hill Road is back on the market. The homestead, which dates to the 1800s, includes an equestrian facility, a guest house, a caretaker’s residence, a converted garage, the four-bedroom primary residence and multiple barns.
