MLB umpire caught cursing on hot mic after blowing call as Red Sox down Twins

Sometimes you just know you messed up.Umpire Bill Miller had a hilarious, NSFW hot-mic moment during the Red Sox’s 6-1 win over the Twins on Friday night when he revealed his true thoughts after a review overturned his initial out call at the plate.“F–k,” Miller said while the Fenway faithful started booing his call with Boston holding that 6-1 advantage.“F–king saw that too, goddammit.”WARNING: GRAPHIC LANGUAGEThe whole point of replay is to get calls right rather than just going with the ruling on the field, but that doesn’t mean an umpire can’t feel bad for missing the call. The play in question came in the eighth inning after Boston created some breathing room against the lowly Twins, with Duran trying to score from first on a single to center with two outs in the eighth inning. The relay procession from center fielder Byron Buxton to Carlos Correa to catcher Ryan Jeffers created a bang-bang play at the plate, with Miller initially ruling Duran safe.Minnesota manager Rocco Baldelli challenged the call and two of Boston’s announcers both acknowledged that it looked like the Twins had nailed the speedy center fielder at the plate.“Just a good all-around baseball play,” the announcer said.Miller then had to tell the crowd he had a made a mistake, although the veteran umpire could take some solace in knowing the ruling did not matter that much due to the score.“The runner is out,” Miller said, drawing the ire of the crowd.
