One driver of deadly Yellowstone Park crash identified, 6 other victims burned beyond recognition

The pick-up truck driver killed in a fiery crash with a tour van near Yellowstone Park has been identified as a 25-year-old Texan.Isaiah Moreno was one of the seven who died in the fiery collision Thursday evening just 16 miles outside the park.Moreno was driving the Dodge Ram pickup west, while the Mercedes van — carrying 14 foreign tourists — traveled east.The cause of the crash is still under investigation.Moreno hailed from Humble, Texas, a city in the northern Houston metropolitan area.No other victims have been identified in the crash.“Due to the complexity of the incident, the identification of all individuals involved and notification of their next of kin will take time,” Idaho State Police said in an update.The six other victims were scorched beyond recognition, forcing officials to wait on DNA test results to make identifications, the Fremont County coroner, Brenda Dye, told The New York Times.All six victims were from outside the US, including two from Italy, she said.China’s Consulate General in San Francisco claimed that five Chinese citizens were killed in the accident and another eight were injured.“The consulate expressed deep condolences for the dead and sincere sympathy to the injured and the families of those affected,” according to the official Xinhua news agency.The remaining individuals were rushed to the hospital with what officials believe are non-life-threatening injuries.
The stretch of highway where the accident occurred is known to be “very dangerous” and “extremely busy,” according to Roger Merrill, 60, who witnessed the vehicles burn after the crash and filmed a video of the fiery aftermath.Tourist vans are especially frequent in the area, which is near the entrance to the national park.
