Mets Jared Young belts first homer since 2023: Great night at ballpark

Join Post Sports+ for exciting subscriber-only features, including real-time texting with Mike Puma about the inside buzz on the Mets.Since his last major league home run in September 2023, Jared Young went from the Cubs to the minor leagues with the Cardinals and all the way to the KBO in South Korea before spending the early part of this season with Triple-A Syracuse.On Tuesday, he started his fourth straight game with the Mets and the left-handed hitter delivered.He homered in the four-run outburst in the bottom of the first and added a double in the third in a 6-4 win over the White Sox at Citi Field.“It was a great night at the ballpark,’’ said Young, who noted all four of his games have been wins for the Mets.
“It felt great to contribute.When you get called up, you always want to make your presence felt.”The 29-year-old with two major league home runs to his name prior to Tuesday did that against Chicago, with both of his extra-base hits coming against Jonathan Cannon.When asked about the time between big league homers, Young said, “It felt that long.”But he’s also appreciating the ride.“It’s the best thing in the world, so you’ve got to play your best to be here and have success,’’ Young said.
“I’m glad to be back.”His production came after Carlos Mendoza said that despite going hitless in his first three games in the lineup, he continued to like Young’s at-bats against right-handed pitching.“He’s had professional at-bats and controls the strike zone,’’ Mendoza said.“He had two really good swings.
He’s getting an opportunity back in the big leagues after a lot of grinding in the minors and overseas.We’re giving him a chance and he’s taking advantage of it.
It’s good to see him get results.”Young has played in 654 games over eight seasons in the minors and hopes to stick around Queens as long as possible.“I want to have good at-bats and be a tough at-bat,’’ Young said.“There’s gonna be a...
