College basketball player Jamarion Brown dead at 23 after being shot in head

Jamarion Brown, a basketball player at Henderson State, was killed after being shot in the head during a party Friday in Camp County, Texas, according to KLTV.He was 23.Onterrian Jamour Newton, a 17-year-old Mount Pleasant, Texas, native, has since been arrested and charged with murder, the Camp County Sheriff’s Office told the outlet.Brown, also from Mount Pleasant, was shot in the head while attending a pool party and taken to a hospital, where he died, according to an additional KLTV report.Officers received multiple calls of a shooting, and Brown was “seriously injured” after being found.The sheriff’s office told the outlet that a helicopter arrived, but Brown was “too injured” to be transported in the air immediately, but he was later flown to a Tyler, Texas, hospital, where he died.“He was a shining light to all who knew him, remembered for his warm spirit, deep commitment to family, and passion for basketball,” Brown’s obituary page reads.“There he became a valued asset to the (Henderson State) University basketball team, earning the admiration of teammates, coaches, and fellow students alike.Basketball was one of Jamarion’s greatest passions, a game he played with heart, discipline, and joy.
