Red Sox, Angels get in fiery pregame spat over sign-stealing allegations

The Red Sox and Angels got into a pre-game brouhaha at Fenway Park on Wednesday. Social media clips caught the teams exchanging words around the third base line as Boston was taking infield before the contest. The incident reportedly kicked off when Angels pitcher Tyler Anderson confronted Red Sox first base coach Jose Flores.The pair were separated before, moments later, Angels pitching coach Barry Enright went back and forth with Flores. Coaches and players from both teams left the dugout and headed toward the scene, although it doesn’t appear any pushes or punches were dished out. WEEI’s Rob Bradford reported that the heated exchange stemmed from Monday night, when the Angels believed Flores was stealing signs while Anderson was on the mound. MLB insider Mike Rodriguez corroborated Bradford’s reporting, adding that Anderson “decided to address the situation and communicated some concerns” when he saw Flores on Wednesday.Anderson got knocked around during his start on Monday, giving up five earned runs and seven hits over 4 1/3 innings, including four runs in the fifth inning before getting pulled.The bizarre kerfuffle previewed what was a wild series finale between the two teams.The Angels opened the top of the first inning with four runs before the Red Sox countered a half-inning later with a five-spot.The game was tied at 9 heading into the ninth inning before Ceddanne Rafaela walked off the Angels with a two-run home run down the right field line in the bottom of the frame.The dinger was the shortest walk-off bomb of the Statcast era at just 308 feet, MLB’s Sarah Langs reported....
