Rescuers rush to pull nearly 2 dozen victims out of water near the Bronx after boat bursts into flames

A boat erupted in flames near Hart Island in the Bronx Saturday night, with rescue crews working to pull nearly two dozen victims from the Long Island Sound, according to law enforcement sources.First responders rushed to the scene after the vessel caught fire around 8:30 p.m.and sent 21 people into the water, sources told The Post.Sources said the fire was caused by an explosion on the boat.

Photos shared on social media captured plumes of black smoke billowing into the night sky near the 131-acre islet, located at the western end of the Sound.It was not immediately clear how many people were injured.The NYPD’s Aviation and Harbor Units, along with fire officials, are on scene, police said.The bridge to City Island is closed as ambulances transport victims to nearby hospitals....
