Islanders hire Ray Bennett, Bob Boughner to complete Patrick Roys coaching staff

Patrick Roy’s coaching staff is complete.The Islanders announced the hires of Ray Bennett and Bob Boughner as assistant coaches on Monday, filling out their staff after John MacLean and Tommy Albelin were let go.Assistant coach Benoit Desrosiers and goaltending coach Piero Greco were both brought back for another year.While specific roles were not announced, Bennett, an assistant coach with the Avalanche from 2017 until being fired after the team’s playoff loss this year, ran the power play in Colorado.

Boughner, who was fired midseason by the Red Wings, ran the penalty kill in Detroit.While Albelin and MacLean both had long-standing ties to Lou Lamoriello, general manager Mathieu Darche told The Post last week that Roy was heavily involved in hiring their replacements.Bennett, 63, had a 10-year stint with the Blues and a six-year run with the Kings before being hired in Colorado.Aside from a one-year gap between working for St.
