Giancarlo Stanton expected to return against Angels in huge Yankees boost

“So we’ll see what that means.But I expect him in some way, shape or form in the Angels series to be in play.” Stanton, who has been out since the spring with tendinitis in both elbows, was initially set to play a fourth rehab game on Saturday with Double-A Somerset.

But he was not in their lineup because of the chance for poor weather, so it is possible he could play there on Sunday instead. Jazz Chisholm Jr.returned to the lineup Saturday after missing the past two games with a tight left groin.“I think we should be in a good spot,” Boone said. Nothing has been finalized yet, but Jake Cousins is trending toward undergoing Tommy John surgery, Boone said, which would sideline the reliever for the rest of this season and at least part of next year. Luis Gil (lat strain) is still just throwing bullpen sessions and is about 10 days to two weeks away from facing hitters for the first time.
