Boy, 16, woman, 25, seriously hurt when shooting erupts in pool area of luxury LI apartment complex: cops

A 16-year-old boy and a 25-year-old woman were seriously hurt when shots erupted in the pool area of a luxury Long Island apartment complex Thursday, authorities said. Two groups were hanging out at the Hawthorne Living Apartment Complex in Central Islip around 4:30 p.m.when a dispute got heated and someone opened fire, striking the teen – who was involved in the clash, and the woman, who was not, Suffolk County Police said.The boy was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, and the woman to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, where both were listed in serious condition. A pair of parked cars and an apartment door were also struck by the gunfire, police said. The groups involved in the violent clash dispersed before police arrived, and no arrests have been made. In addition to the pool area, the bucolic apartment complex boasts landscaped courtyard grounds, in addition to newly renovated units with balconies or patios, as well as spa-inspired bathrooms with ceramic tile and deep-soaking tubs. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Suffolk County Police Department’s Third Squad at 631-854-8352 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.  ...
