Illegal migrant couple handed over to ICE by Nassau police after shoplifting from Long Island target: Officials

Two illegal-migrant lovebirds traveled from Manhattan to Long Island last week to steal from a Target store before they were caught and handed over to Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, authorities said. Gustavo Tellez Carillo, 36, and his girlfriend, Erika Gomez Moreno, 33, tried to shoplift an undisclosed amount of merchandise from the store in Westbury last Sunday night, Nov.9, officials said.Nassau County police were called to the scene around 7:30 p.m.

and apprehended them.After a short investigation, cops discovered that the couple was in the country illegally.Authorities did not reveal what country the pair is from originally. Both Carillo and Moreno were charged with fourth-degree grand larceny — and then handed over to ICE, according to Nassau police. The couple is now subject to be removed from the country, police said. Nassau police transferred the couple to ICE as part of the county’s controversial partnership with the feds, which allows local cops to work directly with federal immigration agents to identify and detain illegal migrants.The county is already on track to have detained more than 3,000 migrants for ICE under the deal, signed by County Executive Bruce Blakeman earlier this year, and has 10 detectives deputized by the feds on standby to assist in any immigration operations.“Nassau County is the first county in America to have a fully comprehensive agreement with ICE under the 287(g) program, and will continue to work with ICE to keep our county safe from unvetted illegal immigrants who commit crimes such as poisoning our young people with fentanyl,” Blakeman has said....
