Bill Belichick is breaking up — but not with his 24-year-old girlfriend.ESPN reported on Friday that the North Carolina coach is firing offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens and special teams coordinator Mike Priefer.Belichick led a disastrous first season with the Tar Heels, going 4-8 and missing out on a bowl as rumors swirled about the 73-year-old’s future with the program and a toxic locker room environment.Belichick’s girlfriend Jordon Hudson was also a constant gameday presence on the sidelines after causing a controversy by blocking a question about their relationship during a “CBS Sunday Morning” interview in April.Hudson has also created headlines by threatening to sue Pablo Torre after the former ESPNer ran a series of stories painting her as a negative presence around the program — and claiming before the season that she had been banned from the team facilities.Kitchens has a long history on NFL sidelines, including being the head coach of the Browns in 2019 and then serving time on the Giants staff.North Carolina had one of the worst offenses in college football, scoring 19.3 points per game, which put them 120th out of 136 programs.Priefer spent four years as the special teams coordinator with the Browns before joining Belichick’s North Carolina staff.Belichick and right-hand man Mike Lombardi, who serves as North Carolina’s GM, have tried selling the Tar Heels as the 33rd NFL team — leaning on their professional experience to sell the program as a training ground for the next level.However, most pointed to a severe talent deficiency as the main reason for UNC’s failures on the field.North Carolina’s four wins came over Charlotte, Richmond and fellow ACC bottom-feeders Stanford and Syracuse and were repeatedly blown out against upper-echelon teams.Belichick previously affirmed his commitment to staying with UNC — but was brief with comments about the future of the team and staff after a season-ending loss to rival NC State.�...
