T.J. Watt has surgery after Steelers dry needling mishap, return TBD

T.J.Watt’s lung issue was bad enough that it required surgery that will likely keep him out for Monday night’s game against the Dolphins.After the Steelers star pass rusher was hospitalized with a partially collapsed lung on Thursday, Watt underwent surgery and he is expected to be discharged from the hospital as of Friday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.Watt’s brother, J.J., provided further insight on what went wrong in Pittsburgh.“Yesterday TJ had successful surgery to stabilize and repair a partially collapsed lung suffered Wednesday after a dry needling treatment session at the facility,” JJ wrote on X.

“Recovery timeline is still TBD, but all went well and he is being released from the hospital today.He and his family are very appreciative of everyone’s kind words and well wishes.”The Steelers announced Watt’s lung issue aon Thursday.

The injury, as initially reported by ESPN, occurred during treatment at the team facility the day prior and that the seven-time Pro Bowler has been in the hospital ever since.“T.J.Watt is currently in a local hospital for further medical evaluation of his lung after experiencing discomfort at the practice facility on Wednesday,” the team said in a statement.
