Chargers Tony Jefferson flips off Chiefs fans after being ejected for vicious hit on receiver

Tony Jefferson was kicked out of Sunday’s win over the Chiefs after making a helmet-to-helmet hit on wide receiver Tyquan Thornton and left the field with less than grace, making an obscene gesture toward the fans, though he did later apologize for his actions. The Chargers defeated the Chiefs in the game 16-13 at Arrowhead Stadium, as Kansas City was eliminated from the playoffs. The safety was ejected for the fourth-quarter hit he laid on Thornton that left the Chiefs receiver down on the field and sent him into concussion protocol. A brief scuffle broke out and Jefferson was eventually disqualified for the hit. Afterward, Jefferson was photographed giving his middle finger to the fans, which is likely to lead to supplemental discipline by the NFL. Following the loss, Jefferson took a moment to apologize for his actions while speaking with reporters. “I apologize for that.I’m classier than that, I was just caught up in the moment,” Jefferson told reporters.
“Emotions get high.I won’t sit here and act like I’m a perfect man.
I messed up when I did that.I have kids at home, and there’s kids out there watching the game too, so I apologize.”As for the hit, Jefferson described it as a “bang-bang moment. “You have to go with what the officials called in the moment,” he said. Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh called it a “football play.” Jefferson had another bone-crushing hit earlier in the game as well when he hit Rashee Rice with enough force to cause an incompletion on third down.Jefferson has become a big part of the Chargers’ defense this season, tied for the team lead in interceptions with four – the same amount he had in his first 10 seasons in the NFL – and has regularly made hard hits to break up catches.Los Angeles is 10-4 and in second place in the AFC West.
