Mets Nolan McLean, Clay Holmes added to Team USAs World Baseball Classic roster

Join Post Sports+ for exciting subscriber-only features, including real-time texting with Mike Puma about the inside buzz on the Mets.Two members of the Mets starting rotation are set to represent the USA in the 2026 World Baseball Classic.Team USA announced Wednesday that Nolan McLean and Clay Holmes have been added to a staff that includes Paul Skenes and Joe Ryan.McLean’s selection follows a season in which he burst on the scene and emerged as a force atop the Mets’ rotation.In eight starts for the Mets last season, the right-hander pitched to a 2.06 ERA with 57 strikeouts in 48 innings.Holmes transitioned from Yankees reliever to the Mets rotation last season and became a reliable starter.

In 33 appearances (31 of which were starts), the right-hander pitched to a 3.53 ERA and amassed a career high with 165 ²/₃ innings pitched.Other Mets who have committed to the WBC include Francisco Lindor (Puerto Rico), Juan Soto (Dominican Republic) and Mark Vientos (Nicaragua).Lindor is serving as Puerto Rico’s team captain.

Soto’s participation is not official.Team USA was the runner-up to Japan in the last WBC, held in 2023.Next year’s event is scheduled to begin March 5-6, with games in Houston, Miami, San Juan and Tokyo.
