One person was injured in a shooting near Sepulveda Middle School in the San Fernando Valley Wednesday afternoon, prompting a brief campus lockdown.School administrators wrote in a message to the school community that they received a report “of a firearm discharged near our campus” but that no students were injured.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the area after receiving a call about a shooting at 3:08 p.m., said Lyndsey Lantz, a department spokesperson.Lantz said one person was taken to a hospital by ambulance.

The extent of the victim’s injuries were not immediately clear, but a school police source told The Times that an officer applied a tourniquet to a victim while waiting for an ambulance to arrive.“We are currently gathering details on this incident,” said school police spokesman Jorge Herrera.
