Jason Variteks wife takes shot at Red Sox GM after franchise icons coaching ouster

Jason Varitek’s wife, Catherine, took a shot at her husband’s former team and the man who leads the baseball staff there. Varitek, a Red Sox great, was part of Alex Cora’s coaching staff before the franchise purged Cora and several coaches after a 10-17 start this season. The Red Sox said that Varitek — a franchise icon who helped the team break its 86-year World Series championship drought — would be “reassigned,” and chief baseball officer Craig Breslow recently told reporters that there was an “open invitation” for Varitek to remain with the organization. It seems that the invite might go unanswered after Catherine used a post on X to shade Breslow after a Red Sox fan posted on the social media platform, asking for Jason to come back. “They have the ‘smartest man in baseball’ running the show… they’ll be OK without Jason, that’s what they wanted.It’s what’s best for the team,” she wrote along with a smiling face emoji. Questions about where Varitek is in terms of his place within the Red Sox have popped up recently, and fans are clearly eager to see him back with the club in some capacity.And publicly, at least, it appears Boston’s front office wants him back, as well. “‘Tek has meant and means so much to this organization,” Breslow told reporters.
