"Dance First, Film Later": Solomun Urges Phone-Free Dancefloors as Pacha Ibiza Residency Returns

Solomun kicked off his ‘Solomun+1’ residency at Pacha Ibiza on Sunday, and alongside the music came a familiar note at the door. The influential DJ and producer revived the handout flyer that his team has quietly distributed at the door every season since 2017, a written appeal urging attendees to minimize filming and stay present on the dancefloor.

In an Instagram post marking this year’s opener, Solomun framed the practice in his own words.“Not a rule.

Not a ban.Just a gentle reminder of what this night is really about,” he wrote.

“The music sounds different when you’re fully inside it.The room feels different when the phones are away.

The night stays with you longer when you actually lived it.” According to data from Eventbrite, phone-free events grew 567% globally between 2024 and 2025, with U.S.attendance climbing a staggering 913%.

It’s a cultural shift in the live event space that’s steadily trickled up from the underground to mainstream consciousness following a decade-long lineage traced through Berlin’s Berghain, London’s fabric and more recently the famed clubbing institutions of the White Isle.Michael Bibi’s Solid Grooves recently announced a ban on phones for its 2026 residency at DC-10.

Now in its 12th year at Pacha, ‘Solomun+1’ is well ahead of the curve. The residency’s 2026 season is slated to run every Sunday from May 31st through October 4th.
