Alexander Zverevs best Grand Slam chance arrives after chaotic French Open

This year’s French Open has been highly unpredictable, but one finalist is not new to playing for the championship.Germany’s Alexander Zverev has found himself in his fourth career Grand Slamfinal, including his second in Paris, after defeating Czech youngster Jakub Mensik in the Friday semifinal 7-5, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.Zverev’s run to the final in Paris marks his third straight year reaching a Grand Slam final.Zverev, who owns 24 tour-level titles, is often considered one of the best players to have never won a major.On Sunday, that can change.In a chaotic fortnight in Paris, Zverev quickly emerged as the favorite when multi-time Slam champions Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic fell in earlier rounds.Carlos Alcaraz, a two-time French Open champion, pulled out of the tournament before it started with a wrist injury.

Casper Ruud, a two-time finalist in Paris, lost early as well.The path has never been clearer for Zverev.He’s dropped only two sets during his run in Paris, and will look to finish his quest for his first career major title against first-time Slam finalist Flavio Cobolli of Italy on Sunday.One possible obstacle for Zverev? Cobolli will be extra rested come Sunday.

He automatically advanced to the final Friday after fellow Italian Matteo Arnaldi was forced to withdraw from their match due to a viral illness.But going into the semifinal, Zverev had only spent twelve total hours on court throughout this tournament, so he shouldn’t be overly wrung out by Sunday morning.
