Exclusive | NYPD probing whether body cam flaunted on NYC subway video is one of theirs

A young man was caught on video riding the NYC subway with an apparently stolen NYPD body camera before filming himself and other straphangers as they chanted “Knicks in four!” into the device.“How does bro have an NYPD body camera,” the clip’s caption reads, followed by laughing and crying emojis.The video shows what appears to be an Axon body camera, the brand used by thousands of NYPD officers citywide to record arrests and other police interactions.In the TikTok post, the person holding the small black camera claims he “stole” it.He and a group of other males then turn the camera on themselves and begin jumping and chanting for the Knicks, who are facing the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals this week.The 15-second video was posted to TikTok Thursday and had 107,000 likes by Friday afternoon.One user posted a picture of a stern-faced, pudgy child and wrote: “Captain watching this live from his desk” in a hat tip to police department brass.Another TikToker noted the cameras can be purchased online.The video was also posted on Instagram, where one user shared a photo of actors Will Smith and Alfonso Ribeiro behind bars in the 90’s television show, “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”Axon doesn’t sell its cameras directly to the public, but they are for sale on Ebay starting at around $300.The NYPD said it was aware of the video and trying to determine if it is one of their cameras, or if it belongs to another agency or was simply bought online, a police spokeswoman said....
