Camera catches fire and falls at soccer match as operator narrowly avoids disaster

Players and a cameraman narrowly avoided disaster after an overhead camera fell onto the pitch after catching fire. The faulty camera plunged more than 20 metres onto the field while a match between Hungary and Kazakhstan played at the Nagyerdei Stadium in Debrecen, Hungary. One cameraman stood on the touchline, oblivious to the danger overhead, was almost struck by the falling object. The spidercam, which can travel across the pitch, had caught alight moments earlier and was billowing smoke.Fans noticed the issue and several caught the incident on camera, but the match officials remained unaware so play continued.Fortunately the camera avoided hitting anyone as it dropped, but the match was halted as the debris was cleared. The match was able to continue with Hungary running out 3-1 winners. But the terrifying incident left fans stunned, with X user Tyler Walsh saying: “Bro was still locked in though, I gotta respect it.”“Truman Show vibes.Good thing the guy was standing a few steps away,” wrote another Michal Pol.“Bro just used up every single bit of his luck,” added user @jackunheard.“Dude that could’ve killed the camera man,” commented @GregisKitty.
