Gotham FC to renovate Red Bulls former facility

Gotham FC is getting some new digs.The reigning NWSL champions are building a state-of-the-art training facility in Whippany, N.J., turning the former Red Bull New York training center into Gotham’s new home base.The 27,000-square-foot campus will include three grass fields — one of which will be heated — and a full-size indoor field, a 3,000-square-foot gym, hydrotherapy room, dedicated player recovery room and lounge, and a dining area.“We are building Gotham FC with the ambition to become one of the defining clubs in women’s soccer and a global brand in sport,” Carolyn Tisch Blodgett, the governor of Gotham FC, said in a statement.

“Creating our first dedicated training facility is a major milestone in that journey because it gives our players and staff something every great club needs: a true home.This investment reflects our belief that world-class athletes deserve world-class environments.

We are building a place designed around performance, recovery, development and connection, while creating a foundation that will support generations of players to come.“As the women’s game continues to accelerate around the world, we want Gotham FC to help set the standard for what is possible and build something that endures.” The new facility will also include space for players’ families, as well as the families of team staff.The renovations are expected to be completed by the summer of 2027 and will begin later this summer.The design of the facility was created in collaboration with SHoP Architects, which is also the firm that designed Barclays Center in Brooklyn.The Athletic reported that the project will cost Gotham FC $35 million and is being privately funded, and that it also includes a 15-year lease that will start Sept.1.“We are building an environment that allows our athletes to perform, recover and develop at the highest level every day,” Yael Averbuch West, Gotham’s president of soccer operations, said in a statement.
