Aldon Smith found slumped over in car as details of 49ers stars death emerge

Aldon Smith was found slumped over in his friend’s car on Saturday less than an hour before being pronounced dead, it has been revealed.The former 49ers star, 36, was declared dead on Saturday afternoon at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose.And not long before, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, Smith was found with his mouth open by his friend Amir Shirazi in the passenger seat of the latter’s Chevy pickup truck.Shirazi told the outlet that he thought Smith was asleep, though he also noted that the former NFL player’s body was slightly twitching.He soon called 911, though Smith was unable to be saved.The Santa Clara County’s chief medical examiner has yet to determine the cause of his death.Smith, who was reportedly struggling financially, and Shirazi had been delivering pizzas to a homeless charity earlier in the day.That charity’s co-founder, Scott Wagers, told the Chronicle that Smith had looked “lethargic” after getting out of Shirazi’s car.However, the pizza delivery went ahead and Shirazi later drove Smith back to his home in Los Gatos, California.He reportedly went inside to quickly turn on some lights before returning to the car and finding his friend “basically dead in my front seat.” Smith was found wearing a Willis Reed Knicks jersey and was planning to watch them in the Finals later that night.Smith, whose NFL career was derailed by substance abuse issues and a slew of arrests that saw him suspended for more than four years, visited the 49ers’ facility to speak with the team’s rookies last week, the Chronicle said.The one-time All-Pro recorded 33.5 sacks over his first two seasons to establish himself as one of the league’s best pass rushers, but he was banned for nine games in 2014 for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.He was released by the 49ers the following year after multiple DUI arrests, and suited up in nine games for the Raiders in 2015 before they ultimately released him too.Due to several suspe...
