You can’t spell USA without “US.”Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau drew plenty of criticism on Friday when he skipped Canada’s opening World Cup match in Toronto in favor of watching the USA face Paraguay in Los Angeles.Trudeau’s girlfriend, pop star Katy Perry, performed at the tournament’s opening ceremony at SoFi Stadium, and he explained it was his duty to support her in person.“Sometimes supportive boyfriend duties call,” he wrote on X.“But you know who I’m rooting for to take the Cup.”While Trudeau was criticized by some for not attending Canada’s first World Cup game on home soil, he saw the better contest in reality.The USMNT were tremendous as they defeated Paraguay 4-1, with Mauricio Pochettino’s team producing a memorable, free-flowing performance.Folarin Balogun scored a brace in the contest and Gio Reyna added a late punctuation mark after Paraguay’s Damián Bobadilla opened the scoring for the USA with an own goal.Canada, meanwhile, dominated Bosnia for long stretches but were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw after Cyle Larin scored the tying goal off the bench.Trudeau served as the Prime Minister of Canada from 2015 to 2025 before he resigned from the position.He started dating Perry during the summer last year.Trudeau will have at least two more chances to watch Canada in the World Cup if he chooses, as the Maple Leafs will be facing both Qatar and Switzerland in Vancouver....
