Ad 0:00 Click for sound 0:00 / 0:00 KNMI, the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute, issued a Code Red heat warning on Wednesday, the first of its kind in the country’s history. The conditions prompted the festival’s organizer, Q-dance, to cancel its final three days after launching on June 25.
The decision followed an earlier attempt to keep the weekend going.Q-dance had restricted Friday and Saturday entry to weekend pass-holders only, reducing capacity in response to the rising heat, and canceled standalone events like the large-scale outdoor ‘Warrior Workout.’ Temperatures in the region were forecast to reach 104°, about 30° above the late-June average for the Netherlands.
“Together with the authorities, we are forced to cancel the remaining days of Defqon.1,” Q-dance said in a statement.“We are absolutely devastated by this development.
The health and safety of our visitors must always come first.” The beloved Dutch festival, founded in 2003 and hosted in Biddinghuizen since 2011, annually draws more than 250,000 attendees from around the world. The 2026 edition was set to feature over 350 artists including Darren Styles, Sub Zero Project, Da Tweekaz and Angerfist, among other hard dance superstars.
Q-dance said the campgrounds and parts of the festival site would remain open through Friday without musical programming, allowing the tens of thousands of attendees already on-site time to arrange their departure.Scroll to continue more from edm Argentinian DJ and Producer Basslovd Wins Edmwarriors 2026 ‘Make It’ Competition Full refunds are expected to be issued, with further details to come.
