They came for the World Cup — but instead got a “redneck crash course” — deep in the heart of Texas.A group of international soccer tourists fell head over boots for America after a Texas man invited them to his 30-acre ranch for a two-day tour of four-wheeling, two-stepping and a trip to Buc-ee’s, according to CBS Evening News.Drew Haas, of South Central Texas, hosted two couples visiting from Poland and France, giving them a muddy, off-road taste of his home state while World Cup fever sweeps across the US.Haas said he wanted to show the visitors “my Texas” — the version of America he knows and loves.The result was kind of a redneck cultural exchange, complete with pickup trucks tearing through the muck, cowboy dancing lessons and a pilgrimage to Buc-ee’s, the beloved Texas-sized gas station chain, with 98 gas pumps and aisles of pure roadside Americana.David Mazur and Martina Bijinska, identified by CBS News as a couple from Silesia in southwestern Poland, said the experience felt like stepping into a movie.Mazur said his father grew up watching John Wayne westerns, making the trip a chance to see that slice of America for himself.California's top news, sports and entertainment delivered to your inbox every day.
