Russian producer Øneheart has released a new single, ‘Hero.’ It’s a notable stylistic departure for the 20 year-old member of Spotify’s elusive billion-stream club, who is setting aside the cinematic ambient sound of his catalog in favor of a techno-inspired cut built for the dancefloor.Ad 0:00 Click for sound 0:00 / 0:00 Featuring Europa, the track opens in familiar territory as euphoric, hazy synths flutter across the mix in ping-pong patterns while vocal swells drift underneath.
Then it drops its guard with distorted, chunky kick drums, pushing the record into heavier terrain.Outside of its vocal flourishes, ‘Hero’ plays as an instrumental but stands as one of the more unique, multi-genre tracks in recent memory.
The release also continues a stretch of work pulling Øneheart away from the liminal ambient sound that made his name.He produced a remix of Ledbyher’s ‘UP TO MY NECK IN U,’ which she debuted at her sold-out London headline show in May, and he has previously collaborated with the electronic music icon Moby.
Øneheart built his following on ‘snowfall,’ the 2022 track that soundtracked millions of TikTok videos and turned slow, reverb-heavy soundscapes into a streaming phenomenon. He told EDM.com last year he hoped the genre would keep moving forward.
“I really hope these genres evolve rather than becoming repetitive or overly commercial,” he said at the time. You can listen to ‘Hero’ below.
