2 National Guardsmen shoot, kill gunman during foot chase in Memphis hotspot

Two National Guard soldiers shot and killed an armed man during a foot chase in downtown Memphis after Fourth of July festivities.Police were responding to a shots-fired call around 4 a.m.when the soldiers stepped in to assist, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.The suspect, 20-year-old Tyrin Johnson, led the soldiers on a chase before they opened fire, the Bureau said in a statement.“For reasons under investigation, the situation escalated, resulting in two National Guard soldiers firing upon Johnson, striking and killing him,” the Bureau said.Memphis police previously claimed Johnson turned toward the soldiers, gun in hand, before they opened fire, WREG reported, although that was not included in the Bureau statement....
