A Fourth of July celebration in Solano County turned into a gruesome scene when a 20-year-old woman was mowed down and allegedly abandoned by her boyfriend.Alexis “Lexi” Hardheart was sitting in a car’s passenger seat being driven by a man –– identified by friends as her boyfriend, Alejandro Rodriguez Zetina — who was doing high-speed “donuts” in a Vallejo parking lot.The crowd had gathered there to watch the July 4 fireworks when a few drivers, including the suspect, started doing car stunts, reported KVTU. In a gut-wrenching twist, she flew out of the vehicle mid-stunt. “Oh… she fell off the car,” a woman on the scene could be heard saying on the video that recorded the incident.

The driver didn’t stop to help.Instead, he allegedly ran over her twice and drove off in an attempt to flee.

Vallejo police tracked down the driver hours after the stunt that left his girlfriend bleeding in the parking lot, slapping him with reckless driving and hit-and-run charges. “It was just terrifying,” Kaylee Cartwright, a friend of the victim, told the news outlet.She went to the scene of the crash the day after and found her friend’s torn jacket and jeans.“Hitting her could have been an accident but just leaving her there… that’s not an accident at all,” said Cartwright. Hardheart was set to start cosmetology school and is now left with a shattered pelvis and two broken legs, reads the family’s statement on a fundraiser.

Doctors have warned the family that Lexi will be “incredibly fortunate” if she ever walks again after the savage hit.She has already undergone her first major surgery, where doctors placed a rod in one of her legs, but this is only the beginning of an incredibly long and difficult journey, the family said.As the “kind and compassionate” young woman clings to life, her mother has dropped everything to take her of her.
