Ad 0:00 Click for sound 0:00 / 0:00 That is the origin of ‘Funk Drunk,’ out now via Fatboy Slim‘s Southern Fried Records.The track began as a mashup, with Slim dropping Carola‘s 2024 single ‘ABC’ over Felix da Housecat‘s ‘Funky Dunk’ during his DJ sets.
The response was immediate enough that an off-the-cuff edit became a proper record.“What seemed like a simple idea actually took a lot of work,” Carola said in a press release shared with EDM.com.
“We went through at least five different versions before reaching the final result.” The payoff is a punchy, funk-forward house cut featuring 7KY.The track’s title nods directly to Felix Da Housecat’s source, and it plays like a relay, Chicago house filtered through Brighton’s big-beat era and handed to one of Brazil’s fastest-rising talents.
The pairing is not a one-off for Carola, who was named by EDM.com as one of the best music producers of 2022.She appeared on the remix of Fatboy Slim’s 2001 classic ‘Ya Mama’ last year.’ Vocalist 7KY, who also appeared on ‘ABC,’ rounds out the lineup.
