SoCal coastal attraction sparks controversy with plans to fix unbearable stench

Nature stinks! At least that’s what locals in one Southern California town are saying to visitors upset about the stench coming from the popular sea lion attraction in San Diego’s La Jolla cove.Officials in San Diego recently filed a notice to deal with what some have called an unbearable odor from the animal waste wafting up from the coastal beach area home to sea lions, birds and other ocean creatures. The notice said the city has filed for a permit to “abate noxious odors where accumulated bird and sea lion excrement pose a health hazard to the public.”The plan is to use a product cleaner and stench counteract spray called BIOCAAC (Bioactive Odor Counteractant and Cleaner), from Ark Environmental Solutions.California's top news, sports and entertainment delivered to your inbox every day.

Never miss a story Officials said it’s a water based-blend of cultured, non-pathogenic bacteria and surfactant which would be applied to more than 2,000 feet of the beach area, FOX5 San Diego reported.Benny Cartwright, a Supervising Public Information Officer for the city said it has been used “many times in the past to mitigate the odor in those areas,” CBS8 reported. The product creates a foam mixture which sticks to the bluffs to keep it from running into the water. It breaks down the sea lion and bird waste. He also assured people the city’s “environmental team and partnering wildlife groups are working together to ensure work in this area does not impact wildlife or the water quality for swimming conditions,” the outlet reported.California Post News: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, YouTube, WhatsApp, LinkedInCalifornia Post Sports Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, XCalifornia Post Opinion California Post Newsletters: Sign up here!California Post App: Download here!Home delivery: Sign up here!Page Six H...
