Woman dies in horror plunge off deadly Laguna Beach parking lot
A 79-year-old woman was killed after her vehicle plunged 25 feet off a Laguna Beach parking lot, overturned, and landed upside down on a sidewalk.The fatal wreck happened at about 7:09 p.m.Friday, when Laguna Beach police officers and firefighters responded to reports of a vehicle that had left the roadway, according to the Laguna Beach Police Department.Authorities said the preliminary investigation found the woman was driving through a parking lot when her vehicle went over a curb, crossed a sidewalk and landscaped area, smashed through a fence, and continued over an embankment approximately 25 feet high.It is the second time a person has died at the parking lot in a year, with James Politoski, 64, passing away in May 2025 while his 15-year-old daughter was learning to drive.The latest vehicle overturned during the fall before coming to rest on its roof on the sidewalk below.The driver, who was the vehicle’s sole occupant, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, police said.
Her identity has not yet been released.Traumatic video from the scene shows the overturned vehicle resting on the sidewalk as firefighters and police officers surrounded the wreckage.Fire engines lined the roadway while first responders established a perimeter as emergency crews worked at the crash site.Investigators said the cause of the collision remains under investigation.
