Mamdani sticks by top adviser after DSA urges members to ice him out over support for Graham Platner

He’s still a Katz person.Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Monday that he’s sticking with his close adviser Morris Katz after his Democratic Socialists of America comrades urged members to freeze him out.“I will continue to work with Morris Katz, who remains as a top adviser of mine,” Mamdani said during an unrelated event.Katz, 27, came under lefty fire for his role in propping up failed Maine US Senate hopeful Graham Platner. The wunderkind adviser worked on Platner’s troubled campaign as it was buffeted by a spate of disturbing revelations, from the candidate’s Nazi-linked tattoo to accusations of mistreating women.Katz himself was accused of threatening a whistleblowing ex-staffer to Platner.
He stood by Platner until a rape accusation against the Marine veteran.A scathing letter from New York City’s DSA chapter circulated after Platner’s candidacy finally imploded, urging members to cut ties with the tainted Katz.“Katz helped recruit Platner and supercharged his candidacy with slick video production, friendly media placements, and political connections,” the letter stated.“Yet even as the scandals mounted, Katz continued to put the full weight of his consultancy behind Platner’s candidacy, foreclosing the possibility of replacing Platner with another candidate before the primary election.”This is a developing story. Please check back for updates....
