Nashville's Deep Tropics Festival Canceled, Future Remains Uncertain

The organizers of Deep Tropics, the festival that spent nearly a decade making the case for electronic dance music in Nashville, have canceled its 2026 edition and signaled that its run is likely over.Ad 0:00 Click for sound 0:00 / 0:00 They announced the cancellation of the event’s Labor Day weekend edition, “Music City Underground,” which was supposed to take place at The Pinnacle at Nashville Yards.

The announcement went further than a single cancellation, noting the team must “bring this chapter of Deep Tropics to a close.” “This was not an easy decision, but it was a necessary one,” organizers wrote in a statement.“Extreme circumstances and funding that didn’t come together made it impossible to continue.” Launched in 2017 by Nashville promoter Full Circle Presents, Deep Tropics built its identity around sustainability, operating a zero-waste model through its Deep Culture nonprofit and billing itself as the “greenest festival in North America.” Organizers reported diverting 96% of the event’s waste from landfills in 2024.

“We want to go beyond this festival model, which is a great example of making this weekend event as sustainable and regenerative as possible, and go in beyond that, to make Nashville the most sustainable city that it can be,” co-founder Blake Atchison told EDM.com in a July 2024 interview.Organizers acknowledged this week that the festival “faced financial headwinds throughout its existence,” and that the last 11 months were especially difficult.

Following a Metro inspection at the venue, the brand scrapped its first-ever spring event, ‘Equinox,’ in March, just two days before it was set to begin.Read the full announcement below.
