Whethan Cancels Festival Set to Attend Oliver Tree's Memorial

Whethan announced this week that he is withdrawing from his scheduled performance at Shambhala, a major Canadian EDM festival, to attend the memorial service for Oliver Tree, his longtime friend and creative partner.Ad 0:00 Click for sound 0:00 / 0:00 The 32-year-old singer-songwriter, born Oliver Tree Nickell, was one of six individuals tragically killed on June 14 when two helicopters collided over Brazil.
His family recently announced the establishment of an artistic foundation, ‘Dr.Oliver Tree’s Extremely Epic Art Grant for Baby Geniuses,’ fulfilling his wish to distribute his wealth to other musicians through an endowment written into his will.
Their careers were braided together from the start.Whethan, the hit-making producer who has released music with everyone from Charli xcx and Dua Lipa to Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello, first collaborated with Tree on 2016’s ‘When I’m Down.’ That track, which served as the beloved musician’s debut single, was ultimately certified Gold by the RIAA.
Whethan, whose real name is Ethan Snoreck, went on to executive-produce much of Tree’s early catalog and remained a close creative partner throughout his career.The DJ played a pivotal role in his breakthrough debut album, 2020’s Ugly Is Beautiful, which topped a pair of Billboard charts.
Snoreck said he also postponed two upcoming shows in Las Vegas, which have been rescheduled for August 6 and 7.Existing tickets will be honored for the new dates, he said, and fans unable to attend can request refunds at their original point of purchase.
