Dodgers lose best record in MLB with defeat to Trea Turner, Phillies

PHILADELPHIA –– Trea Turner taketh … then giveth … then giveth … then taketh again.In what has been a rollercoaster season for the Philadelphia Phillies star shortstop, Turner induced particularly extreme whiplash against his former team on Monday night. He hit two home runs in the Phillies’ 10-7 win over the Dodgers at Citizens Bank Park –– but also committed a couple consequential misplays defensively that, at least for a little while, let the Dodgers hang around.Four years removed from leaving the Dodgers for the Phillies on a $300 million contract, Turner bounced back from a first-inning fielding error on Monday with what initially seemed to be the night’s biggest swing in the second, when he punctuated a four-run Phillies rally with a two-run homer against Emmet Sheehan.However, it was Turner’s shaky defense that helped the Dodgers get back into the game, even with Cy Young contender Cristopher Sánchez on the mound for Philadelphia.After the Dodgers got one run back in the fourth –– and drove up Sánchez’s pitch count after Turner failed to stab a ground ball later in the inning –– Turner was in the middle of another Dodgers’ rally in the sixth.With Sánchez out of the game, Max Muncy came off the bench for a pinch-hit RBI double against Orion Kerkering that made it 4-2.Then, with the bases loaded and two outs, Turner booted a bouncer back up the middle from Andy Pages, charging the ball only to see it kick off his mitt. The play was generously ruled an infield single by the official scorer.
