Hunt for ultra-rare, $5 million Shohei Ohtani card to begin this week

Collectors of Shohei Ohtani memorabilia will have a new Holy Grail to hunt for beginning this week.Officials at Topps announced on Tuesday that an Ohtani baseball card worth millions of dollars will be placed into a random pack and will hit store shelves starting on Wednesday.The card is a true 1-of-1, as it holds four distinct features that no other Ohtani piece has ever contained all while paying homage to his back-to-back, MVP-winning seasons.On the top, it has a Gold MLB Logoman patch that the Dodgers’ two-way star donned during a game in his 2024 MVP season.On the bottom, there’s a Gold MLB Logoman patch that he wore during his 2025 MVP season.The card also has his English and Kanji signatures, plus a gold “1/1” marking in the upper left corner.Geoff Wilson, the founder of Market Movers, estimated the piece will sell for more than $5 million if and when it hits the secondary market, according to Topps.It’s one of three “Back to Back Dual Gold Logoman Autograph Relics” that will be a part of the upcoming 2026 Topps Chrome Baseball set — Tigers pitcher Tarik Skubal and Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge will also have pieces in the product similar to Ohtani.“All Back to Back Gold Logoman cards will be redemptions in the set,” Topps said.A card containing an Ohtani Gold MLB Logoman patch previously sold for $3 million in December 2025.Ohtani joined the Dodgers via free agency in December 2023 and has since won two MVPs and two World Series — all while seeing his collectibles market explode....
