Dodgers star Mookie Betts avoids disastrous moment in on-deck circle

PHILADELPHIA — The Dodgers narrowly avoided a disastrous moment Wednesday, when Mookie Betts took a glancing blow off his head from a foul ball in the on-deck circle.As the second hitter due up in the top of the second inning during the Dodgers’ game against the Phillies, Betts had stepped out on-deck during an at-bat by Max Muncy.Moments later, the star shortstop was sprawling to the ground.With a check swing from the left-handed batter’s box, Muncy had deflected a foul ball straight back toward the Dodgers’ third base dugout.Standing in the line of fire was Betts, who had only a split-second to turn his head and avoid a potentially scary outcome.The ball ricocheted off Betts’ helmet but did not hit him straight on.As Betts dove to the dirt, the ball deflected up and over the Dodgers’ bench.Manager Dave Roberts and a member of the team’s training staff immediately ran onto the field to check on Betts.
But the former MVP quickly bounced back up and signaled he was OK.He went on to take his at-bat, flying out to center....
