Intimate questions potential Lindsay Clancy jurors were asked before being sat for murder trial revealed

Prospective jurors in Massachusetts mom Lindsay Clancy’s triple-murder trial were required to answer a lengthy list of personal questions about mental illness and who they know. More than 300 potential jurors were questioned and excused from the case – including many who left in tears from having to contemplate the strangling deaths of Clancy’s three young children – before the 18-person pool was locked in Thursday. All of the candidates were required to answer a comprehensive set of questions, including whether they had been diagnosed with postpartum depression, an anxiety or bipolar disorder or whether any of their family members had, according to the Boston Globe.They were also asked whether they or a family member had any experience with the mental health system that would prevent them from being impartial, and if they could remain open-minded about the defense’s insanity argument, the outlet reported.The intimate questions didn’t stop there.Potential jurors had to answer questions about whether they could weigh the harrowing details of the case fairly – even while reviewing autopsy photos of the slain children, according to the outlet. They were also required to disclose whether they have had any relationship to witnesses who are expected to testify, WCVB reported. The jury contenders were not automatically excused if they answered yes to some of the questions, according to Clancy’s defense attorney, Kevin Reddington – instead, the goal was for both sides to learn how they thought about issues that are fundamental to the case. “We’re just trying to get fair people,” Reddington reportedly said after court ended on Wednesday. After filling out the lengthy questionnaire, each prospective juror was sent into the Plymouth County courtroom to be interviewed by Reddington, assistant district attorneys Jennifer Sprague and Shanan Buckingham and Judge William Sullivan. Although those conversations were private, the Boston Globe reported th...
