Irvine city leaders squandered over $12 million in taxpayer funds on office renovations, including a $60,000 consulting fee –– while the city stares at an unprecedented cash crunch.The spending spree—a staggering 5% of the city’s entire General Fund—saw millions poured into fancy new furniture and elite cubicle redesigns for council members between 2022 and April 2026.This remodeling madness actually cost more than the entire annual operating budgets of critical departments like Administrative Services ($8.6M), Communications ($7M), and Human Resources ($5.3M), The California Post has learned. Purchase orders obtained by the Voice of Orange County through a public records request, reveal a jaw-dropping $2.1 million was spent on “cubicle reconfigurations” alone, with another $1.9 million wasted on new desk setups while residents foot the bill.Urban Arena, an architecture planning firm with offices in Costa Mesa, San Diego and Oakland, received $60,000 in fee for consulting services.
