Jalen Hurts wanted to put some money down on his defensive tackle as well.During a press conference on Wednesday, the Eagles quarterback told a story of his wife, Bryonna “Bry” Burrows, putting a $5 bill in his backpack for training camp as a part of an inside joke between the couple.It was obvious to Hurts what he would do with the cash.“I took that $5 bill and I went and gave it to Jalen Carter, and I smacked it on his chest.
And I said, ‘Let me put five on top of that,'” Hurts said.Carter agreed to a four-year, $152 million contract extension worth up to $160 million, with $106 million guaranteed on Tuesday.
“We just had a little fun.He’s a great competitor, great player,” Hurts said.
“He’s disrupting practice out there today.Just excited for him to be able to focus on what’s to come and move forward.”Carter was asked on Wednesday about the money he received from Hurts, and whether he would spend it or frame it.Carter said he would rather Hurts had signed it.“I said if he would’ve signed it, it’d probably be worth $500,” he said with a laugh.

I literally held it all day.It fell out of my pockets with teammates giving it to me.
It was a funny moment, though.”The extension made the 25-year-old the highest-paid defensive tackle in NFL history.It followed a 2025 season that included 12 quarterback hits, four tackles for loss, three sacks, 33 total tackles, and 29 pressures.“The last few months, I’ve just been working,” Carter said about the extension.
“I had my agent, Drew Rosenhaus, really handling everything and my beautiful mother over there.They really did most of the communicating and talking.
