Texas news anchor Daniella Guzman under fire for accepting World Cup tickets

Daniella Guzman is in a rough spot.Guzman, a news anchor from KPRC-TV in Houston, has been suspended after receiving and accepting free World Cup tickets from the component of Harris County government that runs NRG Park.In accepting the World Cup tickets, Guzman may have violated the news station’s policies regarding conflicts of interest. The station’s general manager Sean McLaughlin told The Texas Voice that KPRC-TV has opened an investigation into the situation. “Our station takes journalistic ethics very seriously along with anything that could potentially create even the appearance of a conflict of interest,” McLaughlin said.“Due to this being a personnel matter, we won’t have any other comments.” The Harris County Sports and Convention Corporation has a suite at NRG Stadium and often entertains high-profile leaders, and invited Guzman to join for a World Cup game. Guzman was given three tickets to the June 17 match between Portugal and DR Congo and attended the game with her parents.

There, she posted a video of her sitting in a luxury suite on her social media accounts. “Experiencing a World Cup game in Houston with my parents was a dream come true,” Guzman wrote in the caption, not mentioning how she obtained the tickets.In addition to the World Cup game, Guzman reportedly accepted four tickets to the Bruno Mars concert at NRG Stadium in April. Guzman is a four-time Emmy winner and anchored the 5 p.m., 6 p.m.and 10 p.m.
