Elijah Bieniemy getting mental health evaluation after allegedly shooting mom

Elijah Bieniemy’s potential mental health evaluation has delayed two scheduled court appearances in connection with the shooting of his mother, Mia Bieniemy.Elijah, the son of Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, was arrested Monday after the shooting took place at the Bieniemy family home in Virginia on Sunday night.Bieniemy, 27, was charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling.Bieniemy’s motive has not been made clear, and the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said there is an ongoing investigation.Mia Bieniemy was released from the intensive care unit after receiving treatment for multiple gunshot wounds.Eric Bieniemy has remained away from the team as they opened training camp this week.

Pass game coordinator Joe Bleymaier and offensive line coach Andy Heck have taken over most of Bieniemy’s responsibilities in his absence, with head coach Andy Reid overseeing the offense as well.“Eric’s a big part of this, and so I love having him here, but right now it’s important that he takes care of business, and everybody knows that,” Reid said.“So everybody’s game is picked up, and they’re working hard, and Eric will be back soon enough to jump in there and do his thing.

“But he’s got to take care of that first.”Reid, who declined to say when his offensive coordinator might be back with the team, added that Mia Bieniemy is “doing better, and great from where she was.”Eric Bieniemy helped the Chiefs reach three Super Bowls with two titles, and then left to become Washington’s offensive coordinator.After that staff was fired a year later, Bieniemy went to UCLA and then back to the NFL as the Bears’ running backs coach before the Chiefs rehired him as offensive coordinator....
