The new ownership scaled things back.Walgreens now expects to close fewer than 100 stores in 2026, down from earlier internal projections closer to 700, per Inc.
The company also shut down a 500,000-square-foot distribution center in Houston and confirmed at least 628 layoffs across Illinois and Texas, according to Fast Company.Walgreens is not the only pharmacy chain shrinking its footprint.
