LAUSD chief Alberto Carvalho accepted gifts, outside income and misused resources: report

An explosive internal document has revealed shocking details about the ouster of a disgraced California superintendent who led the nation’s second-largest district before the FBI raided his home and office in an investigation into financial misdeeds, according to a new report.The secret school board letter that preceded the June resignation of Los Angeles Unified leader Alberto Carvalho him of unprofessional conduct, unsatisfactory performance and “violation of or refusal to obey” state laws or school district regulations.The Juen 8 letter, reported by the Los Angeles Times, revealed the board’s intent to fire Carvalho or force Carvalho’s resignation after federal authorities ransacked his house and office in February.The Board of Education charged Carvalho with taking unreported gifts, outside income and donor-funded travel.The board also accused Carvalho of improper use of a district-provided car and driver intended for work-related tasks.In addition, Carvalho received “gifts from contractors and lobbyists beyond the limits permitted by law,” the letter states, according to the Times.Carvalho was placed on leave in February after the feds searched his properties.
