Bernie Moreno, his former father-in-law, released dueling statements about alleged abuse during Miller’s marriage to the senator’s daughter.They came two weeks after Mother Jones published a damning report based on 1,000 pages of court documents from the contentious divorce proceedings between Miller and Emily Moreno, his now ex-wife. Miller has been accused of assaulting a romantic partner in the past: Stephanie Grisham, a White House press secretary during President Donald Trump’s first term, made accusations against Miller similar to those Moreno has lodged — and has now filed a restraining order against him.Worse, Miller isn’t accused only of physical violence against grown women; the injuries Moreno described to police came up as part of a child-abuse investigation into their 2-year-old daughter’s broken collarbone.In Sunday’s video statement, Miller — positioning himself in front of a backdrop of child artwork — tried to brush off his ex-wife’s claims by saying that she’d offered to cook him dinner just days after one alleged physical altercation. Anyone familiar with domestic violence recognized that as a tell: It’s an unfortunate reality that victims often try to placate an abuser as a means of defusing tensions. The whispers have been circulating around Washington for years — and have sometimes even oozed into the open. “You’re a woman beater,” former Republican Rep.George Santos yelled at Miller during a heated argument on the House floor in 2023.The rumor mill has only accelerated since.Republicans kno...
