Professors unions endorsement of Abdul El-Sayed is just more proof that the far left rules US academia

At a time when the hard left’s dominance of higher education has stripped academia of public trust, the American Association of University Professors decided to “fight back” by endorsing political candidates — starting with Michigan extremist Abdul El-Sayed in his primary against Rep.Haley Stevens..OK, the AAUP has been heading this way for years now: Its president, Todd Wolfson, called J.D.

Vance a fascist in a 2024 statement; it opted to side with Hamas amid the Gaza war, abandoning its nearly two-decade-old opposition to academic boycotts.But embracing a guy whose comment on an attempted massacre at a Jewish day school was “Hurt people hurt people” — yikes.Fine, the outfit claims President Donald Trump’s threats to higher education leave it no choice but to dive deeper into politics — but, c’mon: Electing any Democrat helps on that front.Subscribe to our daily Post Opinion newsletter! Plus, the decision turns out to be incredibly undemocratic: Turns out AAUP leaders got the key decision made on a July 14 conference call with all of about 40 members in Michigan — out of about 4,000 in the state, and over 40,000 nationwide.So much for the “shared governance” and “collective voice” the AAUP claims to champion: This was just another hard-left coup. Then again, if the national membership doesn’t revolt over this idiocy, they’ll be proving that today’s faculties are the true threat to US higher education....
