AJ Brown, Christian Gonzalez have heated exchanges at Patriots camp

AJ Brown just can’t resist a good teamate scuffle.Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez and Brown have been jawing at each other throughout training camp, consistently seeking each other out in competition, according to reporters in attendance.The competition boiled over on Thursday and the two had to be separated by receiver Kayshon Boutte after Gonzalez got the better of Brown in a rep.“I was just trying to pull A.J.
out to go on to the next,” Boutte told media members after practice, via MassLive’s Mark Daniels.“I heard him say something about ‘You a grown man’.
So I just (got in there) before it got too far.”It’s an unusual situation for Gonzalez who is known for a calm demeanor on the field.The Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed says Brown has brought the volume out of the cornerback, which has helped ramp up the intensity at practice.
“In practice, it comes out a little more,” Gonzalez said.“Just because you get a little more rest (than) in the game.
It’s moving a lot faster.The speed is faster.
I’m a little more tired, winded in the game.I like to figure out how to attack a receiver.
“Not every receiver you can talk to.Some receivers get more mad if you don’t say anything to them.
So it’s just a battle.You get used to going up against guys and trying to figure out how you can get an edge on them.”Gonzalez added that there is no disrespect between the two players and that “it’s football at the end of the day.”Some added competition may be good for Gonzalez who could sign to be the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history before the 2026 season, according to team owner Robert Kraft.The Oregon product is entering the final two years of his rookie contract, with a team option in 2027.
