49ers rumored interest in Vita Vea trade hits brick wall amid Buccaneers latest update

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may have put an end to any trade rumors involving Pro Bowl tackle Vita Vea.“I have no plans on trading Vita,” general manager John Licht said on Thursday, per ESPN.Only the day prior, Vea’s agent Collin Roberts told the Tampa Bay Times: “I just don’t see it ending in anything but a trade at this point.”Vea has opted to hold-in at Buccaneers training camp this summer after contract negotiations between him and the team stalled.He is in the final year of a four-year, $71 million contract and is set to make $17 million in 2026.

The 31-year-old has requested a trade from Tampa with a preference to be dealt to a team that resides in his home state of California or the Las Vegas Raiders.But the latest update doesn’t bode well for the two-time Pro Bowler’s wish to go elsewhere.While the 49ers haven’t publicly stated their interest in acquiring Vea, the team would be one of the most logical fits for the defensive star.

Vea’s arrival to San Francisco would immediately address one of the squad’s biggest struggles last season: the pass rush.In 2025, 49ers interior defensive lineman recorded 45 combined pressures.

Vea generated 44 pressures by himself last year.Vea’s durability should also make him a desirable trade target for the 49ers, given he played in all 17 games with the Buccaneers last season.

Nick Bosa, Alfred Colins and Mykel Williams are all coming back from injury.Moreover, the 49ers have the cap space to absorb Vea’s salary and negotiate an extension.

The trade would be the perfect way for the 49ers to bolster the defense before competing against divisional rivals like the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams.But San Francisco may have just hit a brick wall if the Buccaneers don’t plan on trading Vea.
